The initiative, initially launched in selected countries last October, seeks to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content. Meta also announced a new feature on Instagram aimed at diversifying the content teens see and avoiding repetitive exposure to certain topics.
In April, Meta warned investors that the legal and regulatory backlash in the European Union and the United States over youth social media issues "could significantly affect our business and financial results."
In a landmark trial on March 25, a Los Angeles jury found Meta and Google negligent for creating social media platforms that are harmful to young people, awarding combined damages of $6 million to a 20-year-old woman who said she became addicted to social media as a child.

Meta said 13+ content settings, which filter out content deemed unsuitable for teens, is the default for teen accounts.
A "Limited Content" setting, which offers an even more restrictive experience, will also be made available on Facebook and Messenger later this year, Meta said.
Instagram is testing a new feature to prevent for teens to view excessive amounts of certain types of content and to promote a more balanced feed.
"We recognize that some content - such as posts about nutrition, weight lifting or dealing with anxiety - can be helpful, but should be balanced with other types of content rather than being shown repeatedly," said Meta.
