Mensik praises João Fonseca after victory at Roland Garros: "A great guy"

Czech Jakub Mensik beat João Fonseca by 3 sets to 0 this Tuesday (2), in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. The tennis player analyzed the match against the Brazilian and praised the Brazilian phenomenon.

Mensik had a very high level performance, standing out on serves and forcing João to run all over the court. The Czech was already expecting a difficult duel against João Fonseca, and mentioned that the confrontation started very nervously.

"João is a great guy, a great competitor. I knew beforehand that it would be a difficult match. We started a little nervous, at the end of the match they had incredible moves", he began.

The Czech closed the match in a tie-break after making an incredible comeback in the third set, going from 3/5 to 6/5.

"I'm super happy that I recovered in the third set after some breaks. I stayed focused, I stayed in the game, I kept fighting until the end. In the tie break, the last games, it was one of my best performances. It was very difficult to stay focused, there were some match-points. Happy to come back well in the tie-break, raise my level", he said.

For Mensik, the confrontation was marked and decided by who managed to be more aggressive on the court.

"João is one of the strongest hitters on the circuit, from the base. I tried to stay focused on my serve and return. Basically, it was a game of, I wouldn't say, who hits harder, but who opened the court and played aggressively", he concluded on the Roland Garros court.

Mensik remains in the tournament and will face German Alexander Zverev, who beat Spaniard Rafael Jodar by 3 sets to 0. João says goodbye to the competition after eliminating Djokovic and Casper Ruud, in a high-level campaign.
