Menin on CNN Brasil leading trust in journalism: "Right path"

CNN Brasil is the journalism brand that Brazilians trust most, according to the annual report produced by the University of Oxford in partnership with the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, released this week.

For Rubens Menin, founder and controlling partner of CNN Brasil, the result of the Digital News Report 2026 is recognition of the multiplatform channel's six years of operation.

"I was very pleased with this award. It crowns the work that we always wanted to do at CNN", he said in an interview with Live CNN anchor, Elisa Veeck, this Wednesday (17).

For Menin, credibility is the central foundation of any communication vehicle. "Credibility is the number one pillar of any communications company", he reinforced.

Menin highlighted that the trust gained over the years represents, at the same time, a great responsibility. According to him, credibility requires constant attention from the entire team.

"We can't slip, because it's like crystal: it's cracked, it can't be fixed. So, I see that it's a constant struggle that the entire CNN team has", he said.

He also highlighted that the channel is on the right path and that there is room to evolve. "We see that we are on the right path, and from there it's only for the better", he added.

When asked what attracts the public to CNN Brasil amid a wide range of information sources, Menin pointed out the multiplatform nature of the channel as a relevant differentiator.

"Information is more democratic. It has several channels for different types of people. And CNN is multiplatform", he observed.

In this election year in Brazil, Menin recognized that the period represents an even greater challenge for the vehicle.

"It's more challenging for us. CNN is non-partisan. It is pro-Brazil. The only party we have is Brazil", he declared. "Sometimes we give our opinion on the facts, but not in a biased way. Hence the credibility", he added.

Menin also spoke about the role of the free press in consolidating democracy.

"There is no full democracy without a good press. This is part of, it is intrinsic to this process", he said.
