Memphis Depay speaks out after the Netherlands' elimination from the World Cup and vents on social media

Forward Memphis Depay used social media to speak out after the Netherlands' elimination from the 2026 World Cup. The Dutch team was beaten by Morocco on penalties, still in the round of 32, ending their participation in the tournament early.

In a post made after the match, Corinthians' number 10 expressed dejection with the outcome of the campaign. In the shared image, Memphis wrote:

"I still haven't found the words to express how I feel. I'm devastated that it ended like this."

The elimination also increased speculation about the striker's future with the Dutch national team. At 32 years old and the greatest scorer in the history of the Netherlands, Memphis may have played his last World Cup defending the country.

During the competition, the player participated discreetly. Recently recovered from an injury to his right thigh suffered in March, the striker arrived at the World Cup without the best physical condition and started all the games on the bench at the option of the coaching staff.

Throughout the campaign, Memphis played four matches and remained on the field for just 70 minutes. There were 27 minutes against Japan, 24 against Sweden and another 19 against Tunisia. In the elimination against Morocco, he was not even called by the coach.

Even with little space, the striker ended his participation in the tournament with an assist, without scoring goals.

With the end of the Dutch campaign, Memphis is expected to return to Brazil in the next few days to begin the vacation period before the Corinthians squad returns to CT Dr. Joaquim Grava.

In parallel with the attacker's return, Corinthians and the player's staff continue to negotiate a contract renewal. The current contract is valid until July 31, and conversations between the parties continued during the period in which Memphis was with the Dutch team. The internal expectation is that the final details will be defined in the coming weeks.
