Forward Memphis Depay returned to defend the Netherlands team at the World Cup last Sunday (14), in a 2-2 draw against Japan, in the first round of the group stage of the World Cup. The Corinthians player started the match on the bench, but was called on in the second half by coach Ronald Koeman and participated in the European team's offensive actions.

Memphis entered the field in the 24th minute of the final stage, replacing Malen. During the period he was on the field, the number 10 helped the Netherlands in an attempt to react to the Japanese pressure, which made it difficult for the Dutch to get the ball out.

After the match, in an interview with TNT Sports, the striker was asked about the possibility of the Netherlands facing Brazil in a knockout stage of the World Cup and whether it would be better to avoid a clash against the Brazilian team. Memphis, however, stated that the team is only focused on ensuring qualification for the next phase.

"We're not thinking about that right now. Unfortunately, we tied the game. I think we played well. We should have come out with the win and now we prepare for the next game. We don't focus so much on what we're going to face if we go through. First we need to make sure we go through," said the player.

With the draw against Japan, the Netherlands adds one point in the Group table and returns to the field on June 20th, against Sweden, at 2pm (Brasília time), at the NRG Stadium, in Houston. The Dutch team's last match in the group stage will be against Tunisia, on June 25th, at 8pm (Brasília time), at Arrowhead Stadium, in Kansas City.
