Megaoperation in Maré affects schools, health centers and Fiocruz
The mega police operation carried out this Wednesday (10) in Complexo da Maré, in the North of Rio de Janeiro, caused impacts on public education and health services in the region. For safety reasons, schools had to suspend activities and health units changed their operations.
According to the State Department of Education, two state schools located in the area affected by the operation were closed. The Municipal Department of Education reported that 42 units in the municipal network had their activities impacted by the ongoing police action.
In public transport, Mobi-Rio reported that the police operation did not affect the functioning of the BRT system. According to the agency, the Gentileza Intermodal Terminal also operates normally, with no impact on passenger circulation.

In the health area, three Primary Care units that serve residents of Complexo da Maré suspended the start of operations this morning. According to the Municipal Health Department, the opening of these units will be reassessed throughout the day, according to security conditions in the region.
State health units, in turn, continue to operate normally, with no changes in service to date.
Fiocruz (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz), which has a campus close to the operation area, advised employees and students to avoid traveling to the institution. The recommendation is that activities be carried out remotely whenever possible.
The operation mobilizes Civil Police agents with support from BOPE (Special Police Operations Battalion) and the Military Police Shock Battalion. During the action, teams were shot at by criminals, who also set fire to barricades in an attempt to hinder the advance of security forces.
Understand the operation
The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro launched, this Wednesday (10), a mega-operation in Complexo da Maré, in the North of Rio, to execute 56 arrest warrants and 42 search and seizure warrants against members of the criminal faction TCP (Terceiro Comando Puro).
To date, 10 suspects have been arrested. During investigations in the community, Bope teams located a clandestine drug store. Inputs and equipment for drug cultivation were found at the site. Two rifles, several magazines, a radio communicator and other materials were also seized.
The action, according to the corporation, is the result of months of investigation conducted by the 21st DP (Bonsucesso), with support from intelligence sectors, document analysis and collection of statements. The investigations were organized into six independent fronts, which made it possible to map different areas of activity of the criminal organization.
The investigations revealed the involvement of the targets in a series of crimes that go beyond drug trafficking. Among the crimes identified are cargo theft, homicides, domestic violence and crimes committed against children and adolescents.
The operation seeks to reach members responsible for strategic functions within the organization, in addition to gathering new evidence that could strengthen ongoing investigations.
