Mega-Sena 30 years: How much does the R$300 million prize yield? See calculations

Mega-Sena is holding a special competition this Sunday (24) to celebrate 30 years of the lottery, with a prize estimated at R$300 million.

At the request of CNN Money, Michael Viriato, strategist at Casa do Investidor, carried out simulations to show how much the application of the full value of the prize would yield considering the current level of the basic interest rate, currently at 14.5% per year.

Even in savings, the most conservative and lowest profitability modality, the winner would have millionaire gains. In one month, the R$300 million would yield around R$1.9 million, while in one year the return would exceed R$24 million.

The biggest gains would, however, be in applications linked to the CDI. In an average bank CDB with a remuneration of 110% of the CDI, for example, the prize could yield more than R$2.9 million in just one month and exceed R$39 million over the course of a year.

The survey considers applications such as savings, Treasury Selic, CDBs and DI funds, all following the current Selic level. The simulations use net income, already deducting Income Tax charges on the gains. Only savings remain exempt from taxation.

In the case of DI and Treasury Selic funds, average management fees charged by the market were also considered.

The draw for the special contest will be held at Espaço da Sorte, in São Paulo, with live broadcast on Caixa Econômica Federal's social networks.
