Mayor calls Gusttavo Lima a 'thief' after singer postpones show and claims diarrhea
The mayor of Surubim, in Agreste, Cleber Chaparral (União Brasil) called Gusttavo Lima a "thief" after the singer postponed for the second time the show he would give in the city during the June festivities. The artist, who received R$1.353 million for the performance, claimed "absurd diarrhea" to suspend the event.
After the controversy, Gusttavo Lima canceled the show. But, according to the city hall, it only returned the gross value of the contract, not counting tax withholdings and responsibilities for not carrying out the presentation. The amount returned was not disclosed.

Initially, Gusttavo Lima would perform in Surubim on June 18th. Then, it was postponed until Saturday (27), but canceled the show on the same day. Hours before, however, he performed at Pátio do Forró, the main stage for São João shows in Pernambuco, in Caruaru, also in Agreste.
On Instagram, he reported that he was sick and asked residents to wait for a new date.
"Guys from Surubim, I'm so sorry for not attending today's show. Food poisoning. In other words, shit. I'm having absurd diarrhea, weak, in a cold sweat," he said.
Then, Mayor Cleber Chaparral took the stage and complained.
"He's a thief of conscience, he's a thief of the people's money. Gustavo, for you to be a man, take it quickly and return the money from the Surubim city hall. You don't need money from the city hall, you're rich. You have it to give and lend, but give it back quickly, fulfill your commitments immediately", said the mayor.

Chaparral also said that, until the money was returned, the truck with Gusttavo Lima's equipment would not leave the city.
"It's my responsibility. Now you only leave here when you recant yourself. Recant yourself. Go to social media and portray yourself, that these people, because they came here to see you. It wasn't to come and see me, no. It was to listen to your music. And you lack respect for the people who are here that night", he stated. Lima, partially refunded the amount.
"The refund, however, does not correspond to the full value of the contract, as the amounts relating to the tax withholdings made in the payment will still be determined, in addition to the responsibilities for not holding the show", says the note.
The city hall also regretted what happened and said that "the biggest losers were all the people who showed up, twice, to watch the singer's performance, waiting for the show to take place and having their expectations frustrated".
"The municipality will act firmly to defend the people, public money and the respect that our city deserves. The partial return does not end the case. The appropriate administrative and legal measures will be adopted, in compliance with the contract, legislation, contradictory and broad defense. Surubim deserves respect. The city hall will continue to defend the population", concludes the note.
