Maurício, from Palmeiras, scores his first goal for Paraguay in the World Cup

Paraguay is losing to the United States 3-1 this Friday (12), in a duel valid for the first round of Group D of the 2026 World Cup. The only goal for the South American country was scored by Maurício, a Palmeiras player.

In the 27th minute of the second half, the 24-year-old midfielder received a good pass from striker Julio Enciso and struck first time to reduce the deficit. Verdão even celebrated the goal scored by their player on social media.

This was Maurício's first goal with the Paraguayan national team shirt. Born in São Paulo, he has descendants from the country through his paternal grandmother and managed to change his nationality approved by FIFA in February this year.

Since then, the attacking midfielder has played four matches for Albirroja: three friendlies and his debut in the World Cup.

Folarin Balogun, twice, and Damián Bobadilla, who scored an own goal, were the scorers of the United States' goals at Los Angeles Stadium. This Sunday (14), at 1am (Brasília time), Australia and Türkiye face each other to close the first round of Group D of the competition.
