Mastodon begins new phase with "Your Ghost Again", first single after the death of Brent Hinds
Mastodon officially began a new phase with the release of "Your Ghost Again", the band's first song after the death of Brent Hinds.
The track marks a symbolic moment for the group, as it is the first release without the participation of the founding guitarist, who left the band at the beginning of 2025 and tragically died in August of the same year, victim of a traffic accident while riding a motorcycle.
Even in the face of a delicate period, Mastodon returns with the characteristic weight that marked its trajectory in modern metal. The new lineup features Nick Johnston on guitar, in addition to the remaining members Brann Dailor, on drums and vocals, Bill Keliher, on guitar and backing vocals, and Troy Sanders, on bass and vocals.
Another highlight of the new song is the official presence of Brazilian keyboardist João Nogueira, credited on the track.
"Your Ghost Again" arrives accompanied by an intense and dark clip, described as a production with a hellish atmosphere. The lyrics reinforce the heavy atmosphere by talking about seeing ghosts again, a theme that gains even more impact given the moment the band is experiencing.
The song was produced by Mastodon himself alongside Patrik Berger, known for his work with Taylor Swift and Show Me The Body, and Kurt Ballou, guitarist from Converge.
The release increased fans' expectations for the group's next steps. Rumors indicate that a new album would already be ready and that a tour of the United States should be announced soon.
With "Your Ghost Again", Mastodon not only presents a new song, but also signals its continuity after a profound loss. The track carries weight, memory and the attempt to move forward without erasing the importance of Brent Hinds in the band's history.
