Massive fire in building in Belgium leaves dead and injured

A large fire in a residential building in the city of Antwerp, Belgium, left several people dead and injured this Wednesday (1), according to local police.

The police stated on its website that firefighters were called shortly before 5am (Brasília time) to fight a "large fire" on the eighth floor of a 10-story residential building in the Linkeroever region, a neighborhood in the northwest of the city.
According to the police, there was a lot of smoke in the area and a large joint operation between firefighters and police was mobilized to fight the flames and help residents. The building houses more than 200 people and was evacuated.
"Our teams continue to search for possible victims in the apartment building. Unfortunately, several fatal victims have already been found. (...) Our height rescue team is also present to assist in the evacuations", said the police in an update shortly after 8am (Brasília time).

The police stated that several people were injured, with different levels of severity, however, they did not specify the exact number of injuries. dead or injured.
Several fire department teams from different districts were at the scene. "We ask residents affected by the smoke to keep doors and windows closed and, if necessary, turn off ventilation," police added.
Antwerp is about 30 km north of the capital Brussels.
