Marlon Wayans reveals conflict over the "Scary Movie" franchise

Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans, 53, claimed that brothers Harvey and Bob Weinstein stole his idea for the third "Scary Movie" film and produced it without his participation.

In an interview with Variety, he explained that the first two films in the franchise, released in 2000 and 2001, were directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and co-written by him and Shawn, who also starred in the film.

After the success of the films, Keenen, Marlon and Shawn demanded a pay raise, but the Weinsteins made a very low offer, and when the Wayans refused, the Weinsteins stole their idea for the third film and made it without their participation.

"We didn't even know. We got an announcement on New Year's Eve that they were making 'Scary Movie 3'. The franchise was taken away from us. And we were just asking for our fair share," said Marlon Wayans.

Wayans also declared that the Weinsteins harmed him in relation to the copyright of the first two films.

"What they did is between them and God. I don't applaud this type of behavior, but I can't keep hatred and hurt in my heart if I want to evolve", declared the actor.

Marlon Wayans explained that things changed when Jonathan Glickman, CEO of Miramax, got in touch a few years ago to revive the "Scary Movie" franchise.

"I thought, 'I can't do this without my brothers'. So I convinced Shawn and Keenen to participate. This is a return to the franchise we all created, so forget about all the bad years! This isn't 'Scary 6'; this is a reboot," he said.

The sixth film in the sequence hits Brazilian cinemas on June 4th. The film is directed by Michael Tiddes and written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans and Rick Alvarez.
