Marjane Satrapi, author of 'Persepolis', dies at age 56

French-Iranian author and filmmaker Marjane Satrapi, known worldwide for the graphic novel and film adaptation of "Persepolis", has died at age 56. The information was confirmed by family members to AFP this Thursday (4).
"Marjane Satrapi died of heartbreak just over a year after the death of Mattias Ripa, her husband and the love of her life", says the statement released by her relatives, according to the Euronews TV network.
Born in Rasht, Iran, on November 22, 1969, Marjane Satrapi became known, among other reasons, for her criticism of her country's theocratic regime. Satrapi arrived in France in 1994 and obtained French nationality 12 years later, according to the French newspaper Le Monde.
