Manchester City loses to Aston Villa in farewell to Pep Guardiola
Manchester City was defeated 2-1 by Aston Villa this Sunday (24), in the last round of the Premier League, but the result took a backseat to coach Pep Guardiola's emotional farewell after ten years in charge of the team.
With no impact on the table, as City had already secured runner-up, seven points behind champions Arsenal, the match was marked by tributes to the coach who transformed the history of the club and English football.
Aston Villa, who finished fourth and had already secured a place in the next edition of the Champions League, arrived motivated after winning the Europa League.
Forward Ollie Watkins scored Villa's two winning goals, finding the net in the 2nd and 15th minutes of the second half. City had opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through Antoine Semenyo.
In the final minutes, Phil Foden scored what would have been the equalizer, but the goal ended up being disallowed for offside.
Emotion filled the Etihad Stadium especially during the tributes to players Bernardo Silva and John Stones, who played their last matches for the club.
The two received guards of honor from the teams on the field and were unable to contain their tears. Guardiola hugged the players and was also emotional during the farewell ceremony.
