Man sentenced to 27 years in prison for killing his wife and scattering remains in Paris park

A man who strangled his wife, dismembered her body and scattered the remains in a Paris park in 2023 was sentenced to 27 years in prison this Friday (10), in France.

Staff at Buttes-Chaumont Park, a popular spot for families and joggers in the northeast of the French capital, found a plastic bag containing parts of the victim's body. Her head was found the next day.
Investigators said the couple were originally from Algeria and had three children. They lived on the outskirts of Paris. Before the crime, the relationship had deteriorated and they were facing financial difficulties.
After killing his wife, the man placed her body on the sofa, covered it with a blanket and told the children not to bother her as she was tired. He then went out to buy a grinder.

Although he sent messages to the victim's cell phone asking where she was, in an attempt to divert suspicion, he later confessed to the crime to the police.
A Paris court sentenced the 53-year-old man to 27 years in prison for murder this Friday.
In 2024, 107 women were murdered in France by their partners or former partners, an increase of 11% compared to the previous year, according to official data.
