Man disappears after falling from kayak during swimming race in SP

A 37-year-old man disappeared this Saturday morning (23) after falling from a kayak into the Itapanhaú River, in Bertioga, on the coast of São Paulo. According to GBMar (Maritime Fire Brigade), the victim had suffered a sudden illness.

According to information from the corporation, the victim was following a long-distance swimming race in a kayak when he fell ill and fell into the water, disappearing into the river.

Firefighters were called at around 8:35 am to support a missing person in the waters of the Itapanhaú River, in an area of difficult access that is approximately 18 km from the navigable region of the municipality of Bertioga.

The man was part of a support team for athletes involved in a water crossing event of around 21 kilometers.

After the call, the searches began immediately, mobilizing aquatic and land teams from GBMar and the Fire Department. In total, nine professionals were involved in the operation and the teams worked with specialized vessels and vehicles in the forest region.

At this time, the victim remains missing and the search remains ongoing.

In a statement, the 14 Bis Association, responsible for organizing the event, stated that it was monitoring the case and supporting the authorities. Check it out in full:
