Mamelodi Sundowns win the African Champions League and go to the World Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns, from South Africa, drew 1-1 with AS FAR, from Morocco, this Sunday (24), and won the African Champions League, winning on aggregate by 2-1.

The Moroccans opened the scoring in the 40th minute, with a penalty converted by captain Mohamed Hrimat. The goal, at that moment, equaled the aggregate of the confrontation, after Sundowns won the first game 1-0, in Pretoria.

Soon afterwards, midfielder Teboho Mokoena responded with a beautiful shot from the edge of the area, which beat goalkeeper Ahmed Tagnaouti and went into the goal after hitting the underside of the crossbar, in first half stoppage time.

Hrimat wasted a second penalty for the hosts, with 15 minutes remaining in the duel. Mamelodi Sundowns held off the pressure to win the trophy for the second time in history, following their first title in 2016.

The result also guaranteed the South African team places in the Intercontinental Cup, which takes place this year, and the 2029 Club World Cup. Pyramids, from Egypt, is another guaranteed African in the competition that takes place in three years.
