Maguire says he is 'shocked' to be left out of England's World Cup squad

Defender Harry Maguire revealed this Thursday (21) that he was left out of England's list for the World Cup and said he was "shocked" by coach Thomas Tuchel's decision.

England's official squad will be announced this Friday at Wembley, but Maguire anticipated the news in an emotional post on social media.

"I was confident that I could play an important role for my country this summer after the season I had. I was shocked and devastated by the decision," wrote the 33-year-old defender.

Maguire has 66 caps for England and was an important part of the team in the last major international competitions.

The defender was being considered as an almost certain name in the squad after a season of recovery at Manchester United FC. The defender helped the club finish the Premier League in third place and secure a place in the next edition of the Champions League.

According to the English press, Tuchel contacted the players who were left out of the final list for the World Cup held in the United States, Canada and Mexico this Thursday.
