Lula says that 'children are worse than Bolsonaro' when associating US taxation with the former president's family: 'Traitors of the country'

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated, this Tuesday (2), that the children of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) are "worse than him", and associated the family with the United States report that proposes a 25% surcharge on Brazilian products, due to alleged restrictive practices on American trade.
"We are dealing with the worst kind of human being. This country has never had the political sordidness that we had with this rotten family. He [Flávio] today went to say that he didn't say anything. He went to ask for a break", criticized Lula.
The United States concluded on Monday (1st) an investigation that accuses the Brazilian government of adopting practices that "encumber or restrict" trade with the country. Among them are PIX, illegal deforestation, piracy and failures in the application of anti-corruption laws.
As a result of the investigation, the US Trade Office (USTR) proposed the application of 25% tariffs on Brazilian goods.
Lula commented on the case during a speech at an event in Catalão (GO), this Tuesday. In his speech, he recalled the first time the United States talked about taxation on Brazilian products, in July last year.
"On the day he [Trump] taxed, the 'Bolsonaro boys', one of them, who is a candidate for president, said on July 9, 2025, he posted: 'Thanks Trump, make Brazil free again'. We want Magnistky'", said Lula.
🔎At the time, the Trump administration announced a 40% surcharge - in addition to the 10% that was already in force - on imports of Brazilian origin. The measure affected industry and commerce, and led to negotiations between the two countries in an attempt to reverse the rates.
According to the PT member, the Trump administration's sanctions are a reaction to visits by Flávio Bolsonaro and Eduardo Bolsonaro, sons of former president Jair Bolsonaro, to members of the American government.

The suggestion from the commerce department, however, it included a list of exceptions for products considered strategic by the US, such as meat, fruits, coffee, aircraft, rare earths, among others.
The new tax is not yet in effect. Under US law, the formal investigation must be completed and a series of public consultations must be held before the measures take effect.
