Lula sanctions law that allows automatic renewal of driver's licenses for good drivers

Congress approves automatic renewal of driver's license for good drivers, but with medical examination
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) sanctioned, without vetoes, a law that allows automatic renewal of the National Driving License (CNH) of drivers who have not committed traffic violations subject to points in the previous 12 months.

The law, which amends the Brazilian Traffic Code, was published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) this Friday (5).
The proposal is authored by the federal government. The main change made to the text by the National Congress was the resumption of the mandatory physical and mental aptitude exam for license renewal, even for good drivers.
When sending the measure, the government had removed the exam requirement.
To be considered a "good driver", the driver must meet the following criteria:

Not have points registered on the CNH in the last 12 months;
Not have traffic violations registered on the document in the same period;
Be registered in the National Positive Driver Registry (RNPC).
According to the National Traffic Secretariat (Senatran), since the publication of the provisional measure, now turned into law, the new renewal rules have already benefited 2 million drivers, who had their driver's licenses automatically renewed.
Automatic renewal of the driver's license is used as bait in a digital scam.

With the publication of the law, issuing the document in physical form becomes the driver's choice, and no longer an obligation.
In addition, there will be a national public price for physical, mental and psychological aptitude exams, set by the Union's highest executive traffic body, replacing state tables.
