Lula meets with presidents of Chile and Bolivia at Mercosur summit

President Lula (PT) met this Tuesday (30) with the presidents of Chile, José Antonio Kast, and Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz, during the Mercosur summit in Paraguay.

Through social media, the Brazilian president detailed the topics of each meeting. Lula stated that the Chilean president requested a bilateral meeting for the two to talk about the economic impacts of the war in the Middle East. According to him, both were committed to working towards relations between businesspeople from both countries, "especially to expand partnerships in the areas of aeronautics, science, defense and education".

Lula also announced a future visit by the Brazilian Ministers of Ports and Airports and Industry and Commerce to the Andean country. With Rodrigo Paz, Lula detailed that they were guided by Bolivia's advances in "internal dialogue with social movements to reduce conflicts" and Brazil's humanitarian support for the country.

In the post, Lula detailed the decision to accelerate negotiations on the agreement between Petrobras and YPFB (Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos), the Bolivian equivalent of the Brazilian state-owned company.

"Later this week, President Magda Chambriard will receive a ministerial delegation from the Bolivian government in Rio to discuss the matter", he explained.

The president arrived in Asunción, the Paraguayan capital, today. In addition to Lula, the Summit will also have the participation of Santiago Peña, president of Paraguay; by Javier Milei, from Argentina; by Yamandú Orsi, from Uruguay; by Rodrigo Paz, from Bolivia; and the presidents of the bloc's associated states: José Antonio Kast, from Chile, and Daniel Noboa, from Ecuador.

The expectation for this year's event is that the presidential meeting will inaugurate economic association negotiations between the South American bloc and Japan.
