Lula favors deliveries in the Southeast and Northeast and anticipates campaign pace

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) accelerated announcements and inaugurations before the so-called "electoral closure" and, according to a CNN survey, favored agendas in the Southeast and Northeast regions of Brazil - advancing what should be the president's dynamics in his re-election campaign.

In the last two months, according to the president's agenda, 53 announcements were made - which is equivalent to almost one measure per day. During this same period, between May 4th and July 3rd, the PT member visited 13 states in the country for deliveries and inaugurations.

Lula went to four states in the Northeast, where he made 17 deliveries; and the four in the Southeast, for 12 advertisements. The PT member was also in two states in the Center-West and the Federal District; in one from the North; and one from the South region.

The Southeast and Northeast have the largest electoral colleges in the country, with around 42% and 27% of the country's population, respectively, according to figures from the TSE (Superior Electoral Court). This is also why regions tend to be privileged in the campaigns of presidential candidates. In search of a fourth term for Lula, the PT campaign must repeat the formula.

In the last week before the electoral closure, the president dedicated all his trips to the Northeast: he went to Bahia, Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará. The region, considered strategic by the PT (Workers' Party), was the only one in which Lula defeated Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the 2022 elections.

In order to facilitate the greatest number of deliveries before the restrictions, Lula held on Friday (3), remotely, a ceremony for announcements in the areas of health, education and housing in 12 cities in seven different states. The president "anchored" the event at Palácio do Planalto while allies participated in inaugurations on site.

Next steps for Lula's campaign
The electoral closure begins this Saturday (4). From this day on, the Public Administration is prohibited from inaugurating works, making new hires, advertising, among other restrictions. The Electoral Court aims to guarantee equal conditions between occupants and non-occupants of public positions.

The PT decided to make Lula's candidacy for reelection official on August 2 in the capital of São Paulo. The choice considers the fact that São Paulo is the largest electoral college in the country and the PT's political birthplace.

With the candidacy launched and registered, the campaign actually begins on August 16th - when a series of restrictions cease to apply. From this date onwards, the Electoral Court allows vote requests, distribution of graphic material, rallies, motorcades and paid promotions on the internet.
