Lula asks ministers to "not present anything new" until the end of the elections

In a ministerial meeting this Wednesday (3), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) asked his ministers not to present "anything new" until the end of the elections. According to the PT member, the government's focus now is to deliver what was previously announced.

"We have seven months before the term ends. We have until July 3rd to make all the deliveries we have to make, because after the 3rd we can't make any more agreements with city halls, the state government, inaugurate works [...] Nobody presents me with absolutely anything new. Now it's time to deliver what has already been thought", he reinforced with the team.

According to Lula, this Wednesday's meeting seeks to align government communication amid the possibility of a new tariff and on the eve of the beginning of electoral restrictions.

As of July 4th, three months before the first round of elections, stricter restrictions provided for in the legislation will come into force to prevent the use of public machinery for the benefit of candidates during the election.

During this period, public agents are prevented, for example, from carrying out certain forms of institutional advertising, inaugurations with personal promotion and advertisements that could influence the electorate. The rules aim to ensure greater balance in the electoral dispute and prevent undue advantages to candidates linked to incumbent governments.

"It is very important that you do not inaugurate anything without going through the Civil House. Many times, we find out about things that are inaugurated without the participation of the minister and we do not know who the Federal Government is representing in the deliveries. And you know how it is in politics: If you are not present, no one from the outside will say who is doing what in this country", added Lula.
