♬ Just like Ana Castela, São Paulo singer-songwriter Luan Pereira has always packed country music with touches of funk, pop and electronica in a style labeled as agrojo. For those who know Pereira's discography, paved since 2021 with several connections with funk artist MC Ryan SP and with DJs like Chris no Beat and Lucas Beat, the country twist of the artist's third album, "Off road", will sound almost natural.
In the album released by the record label Som Livre at 9pm yesterday, Thursday, July 9th, Luan Pereira invests in country aesthetics, visible in the promotional photos and evidenced in the sound of the eight tracks recorded in the studio with musical production by Eduardo Godoy.
The artist characterizes "Off road" as a concept album, but the fact is that, instead of developing a story throughout the eight songs, Luan seems to be almost always telling the same story. In this case, that of the peon who exerts a strong sexual attraction on women, including those of a higher social class, the subject of "A Mãe De Nem Sonha" (Tiago Marcelo, Matheus Félix, Leo Souza and Guilherme Ferraz), a track that features Luan with Jeninho, an agrofunk singer from Goiás also known as MC Peão.
In "Off road", Luan Pereira hits the same chord, sexualizing the image of the pedestrian in high-voltage erotic songs whose country sound has a strong electronic feel and appears mixed with funk. "Feel the flavor of peãozão", invites in the funky beat of "Senta pro country" (Luan Pereira, Shylton Fernandes and Beat Will), a song sung by Luan Pereira with DJ Japa NK, MC Jacaré and MC Tuto.
In a similar vein, "Gosta de cowboy" (Luan Pereira, João Fichman, Danilo Carvalho and Vitor Henri) sounds like modão funk, especially due to the presence of the duo Rionegro & Solimões in the recording made with the support of MC GW.
Double that contributed to shaping the sound of agribusiness with electronic beats and funk, CountryBeat - a duo formed by Leo Souza and Matheus Félix, recurring composers in the discography of the country music universe in the current 2020s - performs with Luan on the song "Pedacin do country" (Luan Pereira, João Fichman, Danilo Carvalho, Matheus Freire and Gui Melodia), a track that sets the tone "Off road" to open this one-note album.
The members of the duo are among the composers of "RAM 2.0" (Elan Rubio, Daniel Caon, Leo Souza and Matheus Felix), a turbocharged version of a song already pre-existing in Luan Pereira's songbook, as well as "Hilux. 2.0" (Luan Pereira and Beat Will), a track with MC Daniel derived from the song "Dentro da Hilux" (2024).
Between one re-recording and another, "Blogueirinha de hat e bota" (Luan Pereira, João Fichman, Danilo Carvalho, Matheus Freire and Gui Melodia) differentiates itself by exposing the woman as the protagonist of the album's eroticized narrative in a beat that repeats itself like a mantra.
With a more seductive feel that dilutes (a little) the monotony of the repertoire, "O country vai te pega" (Luan Pereira, João Marcos, Danilo Carvalho, Matheus Freire and Gui Melodia) closes an album that tries to be innovative, but manages to be even boring in just 18 minutes due to the recurring theme of the eight tracks.
