The City Hall of Limeira, in the interior of São Paulo, is carrying out an intervention, on the morning of this Wednesday (17), to reinforce security measures in the region of Ponte do Esqueleto, where young Maria Eduarda died after being thrown during a "rope jump".

The 21-year-old girl died last Saturday (13) when she was thrown from the bridge by employees of the company Entre Cordas, who did not realize that she was not secured with the safety rope. She was attended to by SAMU professionals at the scene, but did not survive her injuries.

According to Limeira City Hall, the intervention work on Ponte do Esqueleto began at 6:30 am and includes the closure of irregular access points, complementing emergency actions that were previously carried out at the site.

According to the municipal administration, a broader intervention had not been carried out before due to operational limitations on the part of the Federal Government, which recognized its responsibility for the area and requested operational support from the municipality to expand the protection of the space until definitive measures are decided.

Permanent structural works, such as the construction of retaining walls, maintenance of ditches and other measures to close off the area, are the responsibility of the Federal Government, while the city hall is responsible for providing support in carrying out emergency services.

The intervention takes place after meetings held this Monday (15), where federal and municipal governments discussed joint solutions and blocking access to the site.

The meetings were represented by the Federal Government through the SPU (Union Heritage Secretariat) and the AGU (General Attorney's Office of the Union), and by municipal representatives with the mayor of Cordeirópolis, Cristina Saad, and the mayor of Limeira, Murilo Felix, and their teams.

After the meetings, the SPU (Union Heritage Secretariat) informed that the discussion with local governments will continue to find a definitive solution for the bridge, which could be demolition.

Remember the case
The young Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freita, who practiced rope jumping in Limeira, on the Ponte do Esqueleto Trail, in the interior of São Paulo, died this Saturday morning (13) when the company carrying out the jumps did not place the rope that was supposed to hold her, which was thrown from around 40 meters.

After Maria Eduarda fell, people at the scene performed CPR until the arrival of the SAMU team, but she was pronounced dead at the scene due to polytrauma.

In addition, a witness to the young woman's death stated that she saw a company employee removing the camera that the victim had attached to her body.

According to the incident report, when police officers arrived at the scene, they found two individuals close to the victim and questioned what had happened. When one of the police officers moved away to provide rescue support, the individuals attempted to flee towards a vegetation area. Because of this, support was requested from other vehicles and the PM aircraft to locate the men.

The Civil Police understood that the elements indicate that those investigated took the risk of resulting in death, and in addition to the lack of security, the location has a history of serious incidents, including other deaths.

To date, three company employees have been arrested. The custody hearing for the suspects was held this Sunday morning (14) and the São Paulo Court converted the detention into preventive detention.
