Lily Allen responds to tour criticism: "My choice not to speak to the public"

Singer Lily Allen, 41, defended herself from criticism she received from a fan for a show on the "West End Girl Tour" held at The O2 Arena, in London, last Sunday (28).

An internet user used X to give a brief summary of the experience at the show. He stated that the artist charged a high ticket price for a short performance without any interaction with the public.

"Lily Allen at The O2: no opening act, came on stage at 9.10pm, all closed at 10pm, not a single word to the audience, £86 to sit on the perch," he wrote, using an English expression to refer to the highest and furthest spot from the stage.

The singer saw the fan's statement and defended herself. "There is an opening show. The show was always advertised as 'Lily Allen plays West End Girl'. I was a few minutes late because my tights frayed and I had to change them," he wrote.

She continued: "The show lasts a little over an hour because it's just the album in its entirety. It's my artistic choice not to talk to the audience; the fourth wall helps with the storytelling. Most people find this effective."

Finally, Lily declared that she is concerned that her audience does not feel harmed and assured that her team works hard to achieve this.

"I don't want anyone to feel shortchanged. Everyone on this tour is working hard to give people the best show possible, and I'm extremely proud of them," she concluded.

The tour referred to by Lily Allen works as a promotion for her album "West End Girl" (2025), in which she details the end of her relationship with actor David Harbour.

She will come to Brazil with the show for Primavera Sound, in December.
