Libertadores: Hugo Souza apologizes for error in Corinthians defeat
Goalkeeper Hugo Souza was one of the characters in Corinthians' 2-0 defeat to Platense, this Wednesday (27), at Neo Química Arena, in the last round of the Copa Libertadores group stage. The player missed both goals for the Argentine team.
Both Platense goals were scored by attacking midfielder Franco Zapiola. The first, a penalty, was scored after Rodrigo Garro touched the arm inside the area after Hugo Souza missed the goal. In the second half, Zapiola covered the Corinthians goalkeeper after he himself missed a pass on the way out of the game.
After the match, Hugo Souza apologized, especially for the error in the second goal, and highlighted that the error will not change the way he plays with his feet at Corinthians.
"We wanted the three points to be in a better position in the general table. I'm sad, I apologize to the fans and the team. It's what we train, we won't stop doing it, I won't stop doing it. I'm sad for having made a mistake, unfortunately it gets in the way", he told getv.
"I'm going to make mistakes, I'm a human being. Obviously I'm going to be sad, I'm sad about that. It wasn't the first, it won't be the last either. I'm going to keep getting it right too. It's about lifting your head and moving forward", he added.
Sequence
Even with the defeat, Corinthians remained at the top of Group E, but remained at 11 points, one more than Platense. Independiente Santa Fé-COL (eight), which goes to the South American Championship, and Peñarol-URU (three) closed the bracket.
