- By Fabio Luigi / Central do Timão Editorial
This Saturday, July 4th, Corinthians celebrated 14 years of the unprecedented Conmebol Libertadores da América title. That year, the team led by Adenor Bacchi, Tite, beat Boca Jrs, from Argentina, by a score of 3 x 1 on aggregate. In 14 games, there were eight wins and six draws, with 21 goals scored and only four conceded.
In the first game, at La Bombonera, in Buenos Aires, Corinthians went after the score and in the 40th minute of the second half, Romarinho, who had just entered, received a pass from Emerson Sheik and just dug it over goalkeeper Agustín Orión. In the return game, the great character was precisely Emerson Sheik, scorer of the goals in Corinthians' 2-0 victory at Pacaembu, occupied by 40 thousand fans.

That day, Timão started the match with the following formation: Cássio; Alessandro, Chicão, Leandro Castán and Fábio Santos; Ralf, Paulinho, Danilo and Alex (Douglas); Jorge Henrique (Wallace) and Emerson Sheik (Liédson). The reserve bench had the following options: Danilo Fernandes, Júlio César, Wallace, Marquinhos, Welder, Douglas, Luís Ramírez, Liédson and Gilsinho.
Sheik's first goal came eight minutes into the second half. After Alex's free kick, Jorge Henrique subtly headed the ball backwards. After a dispute for the ball inside the area, Danilo, with class, played with his heel for Timão's number 11 to fill the net and open the scoring. At 27, Emerson Sheik again intercepted an attempted pass from defender Schiavi, left two players in the dust and finished in the goalkeeper's corner to seal Coringão's title!
At the end of that year, the Parque São Jorge club traveled to Japan and won the second world title in its history by beating Al-Ahly, from Egypt, and Chelsea, from England, both 1 x 0, with goals from striker Paolo Guerrero.
