LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade postponed in Paris due to heat wave

High temperatures forced the postponement of the LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade, scheduled for Saturday in Paris, at the request of authorities, organizers informed AFP this Friday (26).
Paris, like most of France, is facing an intense and prolonged heat wave this week, with temperatures reaching around 40°C.
"The Parade is postponed; we planned to organize it in September, but the whole team needs to come together to see how we can proceed," commented Anouk Veyret, co-president of Inter-LGBT.
The prefect of police of Paris, Patrice Faure, had asked the organizers of this annual LGBTQIA+ meeting in Paris, as well as those of the Solidays festival, to cancel both events.
"The exceptional heat wave", which has lasted since June 21, "put emergency services and health centers to the test", said City Hall, threatening to ban the events if they were not cancelled.

Solidays organizers announced to volunteers the cancellation of the music festival, which was expected to attract around 200,000 people to Paris over three days, according to several sources consulted by AFP.
The measures aim to reduce pressure on emergency services and hospitals in the capital, especially as this heat wave is reminiscent of that of 2003, which left almost 15,000 people dead in France.
