LGBT+ parade brought together 36,800 people in SP, says USP survey

The 30th edition of the São Paulo LGBT+ Pride Parade brought together around 36,800 people on Avenida Paulista this Sunday (7), according to an estimate released by the USP/Cebrap Political Debate Monitor in partnership with the NGO More in Common.

According to the survey, the count mainly takes into account the time of 2:37 pm, considered the peak audience for the event. The margin of error is 12%, which means that the number of participants can vary between 32,300 and 41,200 people.

The estimate was produced from the analysis of aerial images captured by drone throughout the day. Photographs were recorded at six different times: 11:32 am, 12:22 pm, 12:58 pm, 1:32 pm, 2:12 pm and 2:37 pm. For the final count, 27 images were selected taken at the time of greatest public concentration, covering the entire length of the demonstration without overlapping.

The calculation uses the Point to Point Network (P2PNet) method. In practice, the tool uses artificial intelligence to automatically identify and mark the heads of people present in aerial images, allowing the size of the public to be estimated even in high-density areas.

the method presents a precision of 72.9% and an accuracy of 69.5% in individual identification. For events with more than 500 participants, the average absolute percentage error is 12%.

The images used in the count are available for public consultation, allowing data verification and even manual counts to be carried out by any citizen.

The Parade was divided into electric trios with great musical attractions, such as Gloria Groove, Pabllo Vittar, Pepita, Luísa Sonza, Urias, Melody, among others.

The event is organized by APOLGBT-SP (São Paulo LGBT Pride Parade Association) and is considered the largest LGBTQIAP+ Parade in the world.
