Lewis Hamilton admitted he cried after Arsenal won the Premier League title. The subject came up during interviews before the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, held in Montreal.

The Ferrari driver, an avowed Arsenal fan for decades, said the achievement brought back memories of his childhood in Stevenage, the city where he grew up and began his relationship with the London club.

Arsenal ended a 22-year streak without winning the Premier League last Tuesday. The title was confirmed after the 1-1 draw between Manchester City and Bournemouth, a result that mathematically guaranteed the cup for the Londoners.

"I cried, to be honest," Hamilton said. "I remember being five years old and playing football close to home in Stevenage. I was the only black kid in the area and everyone supported West Ham, Tottenham or Manchester United."

Hamilton said that it was his sister who convinced him to support Arsenal when he was still a child, in a memory that resurfaced after the historic victory of the Premier League.

"She poked me in the arm and said: 'You have to support Arsenal'. We laughed about it the other day," said the seven-time Formula 1 world champion.

While Hamilton celebrated the English title, Pierre Gasly quickly brought an opposing view to the debate, highlighting his support for Paris Saint-Germain before their clash with Arsenal in the Champions League.

"I'm happy that we're starting to talk about really important things", joked Gasly during the press conference at the Montreal circuit, drawing laughter from the journalists present.

PSG won their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title last week by defeating Lens 2-0 away from home, further expanding the French club's recent hegemony on the national stage.

Gasly said he expected "a fantastic game of football" between PSG and Arsenal and made it clear that he will be supporting the Parisian team in next week's continental dispute.

"Obviously I'm going to support PSG and I hope they can win a second Champions League", declared the French Alpine driver when commenting on the European duel.

The relaxed conversation about football became one of the topics in the paddock before the Canadian GP, bringing together two Formula 1 drivers on opposite sides of the rivalry between Arsenal and PSG.
