♬ Firstly, it must be said that, if rapper Marcelo D2 had not sampled the original recording of the samba "Deixa eu diz" in the rap song "Desabafo" (2008), Ivan Lins might not be releasing today, June 17th, a reinterpretation of the samba presented to Brazil in the voice of singer Claudya in an album from 1973.
When revitalized by D2, the chorus from the original recording of Claudya increased the visibility of the singer and of samba itself, until then forgotten in Ivan Lins' work. A year after Claudya, Ivan Lins re-recorded "Deixa eu diz" on the album "Modo livre" (1974), the inaugural milestone in Ivan's partnership with Vitor Martins.
However, "Let me say" is a song by Ivan Lins with lyrics by the Rio composer's first partner, Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza.
This time, the lyrical outburst is made by Ivan com Ferrugem, a guest on the recording that is part of the still unreleased album "Sambadouro", in which Ivan revisits sambas from his own original songbook with the intention of bringing them closer to the universe of pagodas da roda and backyards in the Rio suburbs.
Ferrugem is a singer aligned with the pagoda of the 21st century, but he has sincere admiration for the work of Ivan Lins and is at ease singing "Deixa eu diz", letting go in the final minute of the recording made in October 2025 at the Cia. dos Técnicos studio, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).
Third sample from the album "Sambadouro", the single "Deixa eu diz" flows well in the recording made with an arrangement by guitarist Rafael dos Anjos and touches from musicians such as guitarist Rogério Caetano and percussionist Thiago da Serrinha. You can even imagine this version of "Let me say" in a samba circle set up in a backyard, discounting the fact that the samba chorus is much more attractive than the samba as a whole.
However, as much as there is a certain fluency in the third single, there is also a certain inadequacy in the transposition of Ivan Lins' work to Rio's backyards, as already signaled by the previous singles "Diplomação" - which featured Ivan's feat with Zeca Pagodinho in the recording of Ivan's samba released by his partner Celso Viáfora on the album "Basta um Tamborer" (2001) - and "Sambadouro" (with the samba-title of 1992).
In reality, we need to score a great goal in this area, although the game is still in its infancy...
