Leaving, Guardiola asks future City coach for authenticity

Coach Pep Guardiola stated that he expects his successor at Manchester City to have his own identity and avoided any comparison with the work built over the last decade.

Guardiola will play his last game for the club this Sunday (24), after winning six Premier League titles, as well as a Champions League and a Club World Cup.

The Italian Enzo Maresca, former commander of Chelsea and Leicester, appears as the main candidate to take over the role. Maresca also worked as Guardiola's assistant at City.

When asked about possible participation in choosing the new coach, Guardiola dismissed the idea that the club needed to look for someone similar to him.

"It doesn't work to copy and paste in this job. You need to be unique, natural and be yourself. The new coach will be himself", he stated.

The Spaniard also highlighted that trying to exactly reproduce another coach's style could be harmful.

"The moment someone tries to be a copy of someone else... everyone is who they are. It has to be that way. And that's why everything will work out", he added.

Guardiola also commented on the 115 accusations of alleged violations of Premier League financial rules involving Manchester City, a case that still remains without an official definition. The coach demonstrated confidence in the club's stance.

"Because I trust them. I've talked to them and I trust the way they acted and what they did. There will be a resolution to this, and I trust them," he commented.
