Law professor accused of sexual crimes is released in RS

The lawyer and former law professor, Conrado Paulino da Rosa, was released by decision of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), this Wednesday (17). The information was confirmed by Conrado's defense.

Conrado had been in prison since March, after being reported by the MPRS (Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Sul) for sexual crimes committed against ten women. Among them, rape, rape of a vulnerable person, psychological violence and false imprisonment.

In December last year, he was indicted by the PCRS (Civil Police of Rio Grande do Sul). According to the police, the investigation lasted three months and interviewed 18 victims. In addition, statements from witnesses, expertise, examinations and documentary evidence were collected.

Conrado allegedly committed the sexual crimes between 2013 and 2025. After the investigation began, on September 2, the lawyer was dismissed from the FMP (Fundação Escola Superior do Ministério Público), where he taught.

"Conrado Paulino's defense informs that the decision of the Superior Court of Justice reiterates the disproportionality of the preventive detention ordered by the Court of Justice of Rio Grande do Sul, given the specific circumstances of the case. According to the STJ, the Court responsible for monitoring the process had already considered the precautionary measures previously imposed to be sufficient, an understanding that had been observed in the course of the criminal action. The reporting minister also highlighted that the granting of the order was only possible after demonstrating that the precautionary measures imposed on the Conrado were never breached. The decision recognized that there was a misinterpretation of the facts used to justify the preventive detention, concluding that the extreme measure was not legally appropriate given the specific circumstances of the case. Although the defense has always respected the actions of the institutions and the regular progress of the process, it understands that the STJ's decision reaffirms the need for strict compliance with the legal criteria that authorize the restriction of the freedom of any citizen. observance of due legal process and respect for the constitutional guarantees that govern the Democratic Rule of Law."
