This Wednesday's (17th) round of the World Cup was marked by a saving goal in stoppage time, Colombia's winning return to the World Cup, a convincing debut from England and a historic result for the Democratic Republic of Congo, who held off Portugal and won their first point in the competition.

Goal in the 49th minute guarantees victory for Ghana
In Canada, the emotion was reserved for stoppage time. Ghana beat Panama 1-0 with a goal scored in the 49th minute of the second half.
The match also had a special character outside the four lines. The Ghanaian coach, Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, is playing in his fifth consecutive World Cup. Before leading Ghana, he was in charge of Portugal in 2010 and Iran in the 2014, 2018 and 2022 editions.
The record among coaches continues with Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parreira, who participated in six World Cups for four different teams: Kuwait, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.
Colombia returns to the World Cup with triumph over newcomers
Colombia is back in the World Cup - and is back winning. Absent from the 2022 edition, the South American team defeated debutant Uzbekistan 3-1.
Before the goals, however, an unusual scene caught attention. Uzbek Kusavov collided with a FIFA cameraman on the edge of the pitch. The professional had to be replaced.
In the game, Muñoz opened the scoring in the first half after an assist from Luis Díaz. In the final stage, Fayzullaev equalized and scored the first goal in Uzbekistan's history in World Cups.
Equality was short-lived. Luis Díaz gave the Colombians the lead again and, in stoppage time, Campaz closed out the 3-1 victory.
Kane shines and England debuts with a rout in a six-goal game
World champions in 1966, England began their quest for a second title with a convincing victory over Croatia: 4-2.
In the eighth minute, Modric committed a penalty to Kane. The attacker wasted the charge, but VAR identified goalkeeper Livakovic as being ahead. In the replay, the number 9 did not forgive.
Croatia reacted twice, with goals from Baturina and Musa, but saw Harry Kane score again and catch up with Gary Lineker as the highest English scorer in World Cups, with ten goals.
In the second half, Bellingham put the English ahead again in the first minute. Rashford closed the score and secured the three points for the English team.
Congo makes history and overshadows Cristiano Ronaldo's debut
The Democratic Republic of Congo stole the show in Cristiano Ronaldo's World Cup debut.
Back in a World Cup after 52 years - when it was still competing as Zaire -, the African team snatched a 1-1 draw against Portugal and celebrated its first goal in the history of the competition.
João Neves opened the score for the Portuguese after just five minutes. But, in stoppage time of the initial stage, Wissa scored the historic goal for the Congolese.
In the second half, Portugal found the net thanks to a bicycle kick from João Cancelo, but the shot was canceled due to offside. Cristiano Ronaldo also had a good opportunity, but was unable to convert.
After the final whistle, an image went viral on social media: a small group of Congolese fans celebrating the draw amidst a crowd of Portuguese on the streets of Lisbon. The result was treated as historic by the Africans and frustrating for the Portuguese.
