Land Rover recalls 250,000 vehicles due to airbag defects; units in Brazil were also affected

Land Rover announced last week, in the United States, a recall of more than 250,000 units of Discovery, Defender and Range Rover models produced between 2020 and 2026.
The detected defect may occur in the front airbag on the passenger side. One of the connectors may present corrosion and, as a result, cause the airbag to fail to activate when necessary.

The campaign follows an investigation by NHTSA, the traffic safety agency in the USA. The g1 report contacted JLR Brasil, which confirmed that units sold in the country will also undergo this recall. See the company's response below:
"The recall campaign will also be carried out in Brazil. At this time, JLR Brasil is conducting the necessary regulatory procedures with the competent authorities for the official launch of the campaign in the country. As soon as this process is completed, the owners of the vehicles potentially involved will be notified."

There is still no confirmation of how many units sold in Brazil will be part of the recall.
The NHTSA investigation began in 2025. The US entity noticed an increase of repair requests within the warranty period for "airbag malfunction warning light" cases.
Land Rover discovered, after testing, that vibration could lead to corrosion of the passenger airbag connector. The solution to the problem, according to a statement from NHTSA, is to apply a protective gel to the connector terminal.
