Knicks beat Spurs in 2025 NBA Cup Final; remember

With an eye on the NBA title, the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks open the Finals this Wednesday (3), when they face each other at 9:30 pm at the Frost Bank Center, in San Antonio, Texas, for the first match of the best-of-seven series.

The Texan franchise can be considered the favorite in the dispute for having had a better campaign in the regular season - in 82 duels, there were 62 victories, nine more than the visitors - and for having eliminated the current champion, the Oklahoma City Thunder, in the Western Finals.

The New York team, on the other hand, dreams of a third championship, after titles in 1970 and 1973, and is based on an important fact. In the most important recent clash against the Spurs, champions in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014, the Knicks emerged victorious.

On December 16, the New York franchise went to the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and won 124 to 113, winning the unprecedented NBA Cup title, joining the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks as the only champions. The result, however, does not indicate exactly what the decision was in a single match.

That's because the Spurs won the first half 30-28, went to the locker room winning 61-59 and entered the last half with an advantage, making it 94-89. However, the Knicks managed a great final quarter, leading the period 35-19 and reaching the final score.

Jalen Brunson, with 25 points, eight assists, four rebounds and one block, and OG Anunoby, with 28 points, three assists, nine rebounds and one block, led to the reaction - both remained on the court for more than 40 minutes.

The point guard, in fact, was elected the 2025 NBA Cup MVP, joining the tournament's ideal team alongside three other guards - Luka Dončić, from the Los Angeles Lakers; De'Aaron Fox of the San Antonio Spurs; and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Champion center Karl-Anthony Towns completed the lineup.

French pivot Victor Wembanyama, Spurs' franchise player, started the decision on the bench and played just under 25 minutes, but contributed without much emphasis. With 18 points, one assist, six rebounds, one steal and two blocks, he had a plus/minus of -18.
