Grêmio defender Walter Kannemann chose Jô, one of the great number 9s in Corinthians' history, as the most difficult attacker he faced in his entire career in Brazilian football. In an interview with channel 4D TV, the Argentine highlighted the qualities of the athlete, who at the time in question played for Timão, and the difficulties created by the top scorer in the clashes they had.
"I've already marked several attackers, but Jô [was the most difficult in Brazil]. For me, he was a slow fake. He held the ball well, used his body well. I went out to score, he went to the side, he never stayed quiet. When he wanted to play, you had to be firm with him, but he was firm too and he was tall," he said.

Career at Corinthians
Jô played 284 official games for Corinthians and scored 65 goals, divided into three remarkable periods. Revealed by the club's youth teams, the striker made history in 2003 by becoming the youngest player to make his professional debut, at just 16 years old. In this first stage, which lasted until the end of 2005, he entered the field 115 times, scored 18 times and was part of the squad that won the 2005 Brazilian Championship before being sold to Russian football.
The culmination of his career at Alvinegro came in 2017, upon his return to Brazilian football. Jô was the great protagonist of the team led by Fábio Carille, scoring 25 goals in 64 matches played that season. Under his technical leadership, Corinthians won the Campeonato Paulista and the seventh Brasileirão championship, a competition in which the center forward was elected the best player and finished as the top scorer with 18 goals. His third and final spell began in 2020, shortly after his departure from Japanese football.
Despite facing physical fluctuations and criticism from the fans, Jô added 22 goals in 105 games over two years. He ended his cycle at the club in June 2022 after an amicable contract termination, leaving Corinthians as the highest scorer in the club's history in the Brazilian Championship in the points-run era.
