Joy Division announces "Eternal (Live)", first official box set with live recordings

Joy Division has announced "Eternal (Live)", the band's first official box set dedicated exclusively to live recordings. The release will arrive on September 25th via Warner Music and will bring together 16 performances distributed across 14 CDs. The material was taken from tapes recorded by the public, soundboard recordings and recordings made for radio broadcasts, later mastered at Abbey Road Studios. The recorded performances cover the period between March 1979 and May 1980, precisely the last months of Joy Division's activity before Ian Curtis' death. The box includes shows performed in cities such as London, Manchester, Leeds, Altrincham, Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Paris, as well as important records from the band's last months in the United Kingdom. One of the most significant moments in the package is the inclusion of Joy Division's final show, held in Birmingham on May 2, 1980. In addition to the CDs, "Eternal (Live)" will also feature video material, including around two and a half hours of performances. Among the highlights are an unprecedented show in Brussels and records from the Apollo Theater in Manchester. The release also includes a new edition of "Joy Division - A Malcolm Whitehead Film", as well as a 16-page booklet with texts, photographs and special graphic material. The announcement comes at an important time for the band's legacy, as Joy Division and New Order will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2026. Even with an extremely short career, Joy Division remains one of the most influential bands in the history of post-punk. "Eternal (Live)" promises to offer fans a more raw, intense and direct view of the strength the group had on stage.
