Joe Perry Reveals Surprising Number of Guitars He's Owned, Shocking Aerosmith Fans

Having one or two guitars is the dream of many musicians. But for Joe Perry, legendary guitarist and founder of Aerosmith, the passion for instruments was taken to an impressive level over the decades.

During an interview with Classic Rock magazine, the musician recalled the first steps of his trajectory and revealed how his connection with the guitar began in childhood.

According to Perry, it all started when he convinced his parents to give him his first instrument around the age of 10. Shortly afterwards, he started listening to rock on the radio and tried to follow the songs by playing alone. The arrival of the Beatles was a turning point and helped define the path he would follow for the rest of his life.

As the years went by, his search for new tones and instruments made his collection grow quickly. After saving money by working small jobs and receiving help from his parents, Joe acquired a Guild Starfire IV, a model that marked an important phase in his musical evolution.

Later, he exchanged the Guild for his first Gibson Les Paul, a guitar that would become one of the trademarks of his career. However, what caught the most attention was the revelation about the size of his collection throughout his life.

According to Perry, the total number of guitars that have passed through his hands is so large that not even he can pinpoint exactly. The musician estimates that he has accumulated between 300 and 400 different instruments during his career.

The statement impressed fans and reinforces how the guitar has always been a natural extension of the artistic identity of the musician, considered one of the greatest guitarists in the history of hard rock.

Formed in 1970, Aerosmith built a career full of classics that marked generations. Among the band's biggest hits are songs like Dream On, Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion, Crazy and Cryin'.

After more than five decades on the road, the group officially ended its activities in 2024, leaving a legacy that continues to influence musicians and fans around the world.
