Singer Jennifer Lopez, 56, reported having been "forced" to look at herself amid the end of her marriage to actor Ben Affleck, 53. The star explained that the turbulent period in her personal life led her to interrupt her frenetic work routine and face issues that she had "been ignoring" for years.

The couple announced their separation in 2024, ending a relationship that had rekindled fans' imagination two decades after the duo's first engagement. Despite the divorce, the two maintained a cordial relationship.

In participation in the SmartLess podcast, presented by actors Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes, the interpreter of "If You Had My Love" declared that some of the challenges she experienced were related to patterns that she needed to better understand in herself.

"There were moments in my life when everything blew up in my face. And it was because of the choices I made, but also because there were things about me that needed to change and that I didn't understand or recognize. It was these things that attracted certain events and experiences into my life."

She added: "So I want to acknowledge my merit in this as well. But there comes a time when everything seems so confusing and so wrong that you have to sit down and face it. And after my last divorce, I just stopped. I canceled my tour and thought, 'You need to, once and for all, understand what the f*** is going on with you. Forget about everyone else. There's no one to blame here but yourself, in a way.'"

J-Lo - who has also been married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd and Marc Anthony - reported that the period of introspection helped her rethink what she wants for the future.

"What is my life now? For the last 20 years, it has been one thing. The last five years have been a turmoil. And the most recent two years have been a kind of healing process from this troubled phase, when I really got to know myself."

Mother of twins Max and Emme, the singer stated that she feels different from the person she was a short time ago.

"It's amazing. Now I can look at my life, value it for what it is and what I've built for myself, and be truly happy."
