Jaques has our trust and will prove his innocence, says PT president

The national president of the PT, Edinho Silva, stated this Thursday (18) that senator Jaques Wagner (PT-BA) is the "repository" of all the party's "trust" and will have his innocence proven. The congressman was the target this morning of a PF (Federal Police) operation related to Banco Master.

"In this investigation and investigation process, we are confident that Jaques Wagner will clarify all the facts, proving his innocence", said Edinho in a statement.

The PT leader also said he supports investigations into Master's financial fraud and defended holding those responsible accountable. This Thursday, the PF carried out a new phase of the Compliance Zero operation with searches at addresses linked to Jaques Wagner.

According to investigations, the senator and members of his family would have received undue economic advantages negotiated with Augusto Lima, a former partner of Master and one of the targets of the operation launched this Thursday. Government leader in the Senate, Jaques would have negotiated the acquisition of a luxury apartment in Salvador and used private jets linked to Master or Augusto Lima.

"Senator Jaques Wagner is the repository of all our trust. We support all investigations involving Banco Master, society has the right to know the truth. The crimes committed need to be investigated and those responsible punished", stated Edinho.

Jaques Wagner has not yet commented on the PF operation. CNN is trying to contact the senator's office.

Historical member of the PT, Jaques' leadership role in the government has been questioned since the defeat of Jorge Messias' nomination to the STF (Supreme Federal Court). As CNN showed, the senator's continuation in office must be debated by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
