Italian Prime Minister talks to G7 leaders about quitting smoking

Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni talked about quitting smoking with other G7 leaders as they prepared to meet for one of the Summit meetings in France.

In early October 2025, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan told Meloni she needed to quit smoking, on the sidelines of a summit on Gaza.

French President Emmanuel Macron, who was standing next to them, said this was impossible, while Meloni responded by saying he knew he had to give up the habit.

The G7 is short for the Group of Seven, an informal organization of leaders from some of the world's largest economies: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The group's member countries meet annually at a summit to discuss urgent issues on the global stage and coordinate policies. International security and the global economy are frequently topics of discussion. This year, the focus was divided between the conflict in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine.

Unlike formal international organizations, the G7 does not have any permanent administrative structure.

This year's Summit began on Monday (15) and will end this Wednesday (17).
