The rescue of a researcher who was trapped 120 meters deep in a cave in Italy mobilized no less than 53 rescuers, coming from various parts of the country, this Monday (1st).
According to information from the emergency services, the speleologist - a specialist in the study of natural underground cavities - got his leg trapped under a rock.
According to the local press, the researcher is an Italian citizen and is 20 years old.
The mega rescue operation took place at night in the Grotta dei Cinghiali Volanti, in the province of Cuneo, about 120 kilometers south of Turin.
The man was initially treated in an improvised medical station, set up inside the cave, and was then transported by ambulance to the hospital, the Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service reported in a statement.
"After verifying that the patient's general clinical condition was good and that there was no need for transportation on a stretcher, an assisted exit procedure from the cave was planned and initiated. The injured person's ability to actively participate during the evacuation allowed for faster and easier rescue operations, which, however, lasted several hours due to the complex underground environment and the nature of the route," the agency detailed in a message posted on social media.
