What are the posts like?
Published this Wednesday (8) on TikTok, where it reached more than 2.6 million views, the post has this caption: "Neymar says goodbye to the World Cup".
In the video, the player appears in front of a panel that displays the inscription "World Cup 2026" and several logos of the event's sponsors. In front of the attacker, microphones from press vehicles are positioned, as in an interview.
Neymar says: "Firstly, I wanted to ask forgiveness from all Brazilians, right? Because even though I scored the last goal of honor for the Brazilian team, unfortunately I wasn't able to bring home the long-awaited hexa. What I can say is that it was a pleasure to be able to play for my country and to be able to honor this shirt until the end. I wish a lot of talent and boldness for the next team, but unfortunately this is where we say goodbye. A big hug from the boy Ney and never forget to me".
But this statement is not real. The material manipulated with artificial intelligence (AI) the audio and images of an interview given by the player on June 24, that is: before Brazil's elimination, on Sunday (5), after losing 2-1 to Norway (read more below).
In his comment after Brazil's defeat in the World Cup, Neymar, in fact, indicated that he may have ended his career with the national team. Still on the pitch, he told ge: "Now it's over. I started here and ended here."
Throughout the fake recording, the images from the interview are interspersed with real videos of Endrick and Vini Jr. at the World Cup. The material also shows Neymar's penalty kick at the end of the match against the Norwegians. In the comments section, users questioned whether the attacker's speech was real, while others pointed out that it was a production made with AI.
⚠ Why #IS IT FAKE?
The fake video used AI to tamper with an interview with Neymar after the first game in which he entered the field in the 2026 World Cup. Valid for the last round of Group C, a 3-0 victory against Scotland guaranteed the team the lead in the group. Therefore, there would not even be a reason for the player to apologize for an elimination, as Brazil was still in contention.
In a real conversation with journalists - available in full on ge - the player spoke about the feeling of returning to play for the national team, praised striker Vini Jr. and talked about his family's support in the competition.
Fato ou Fake managed to identify excerpts from the real video used in the lying material. To do this, it was necessary to monitor the movements of the player's head and eyebrows.
AI was used to synchronize the movements of the player's lips with the fake audio, also produced with this feature. Furthermore, the images from the interview appear to have been edited to increase the sharpness of the lines.

Fato ou Fake submitted the video to two tools that detect content manufactured with AI. See the results of the analysis (and the infographics below):
Sightengine - 99% probability that the excerpts with Neymar's face were manipulated with AI.
HiveModeration - 51% probability that the material had audio generated with AI.
HiveModeration did not specifically accuse manipulation of the images. One of the hypotheses for this is the fact that there is a caption covering part of the player's face, which makes it difficult to detect inconsistencies.
In addition, the false content contains a soundtrack from beginning to end, which can make it difficult to indicate adulteration in the statements.
The highest points in the graph display images of Neymar in the interview manipulated by AI.
