Israeli attack kills Lebanese general and soldiers, army says
Several Lebanese soldiers, including an officer, were killed in an Israeli attack on their military vehicle in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese army said on Saturday (6).
The announcement of Israel's deadly attack came through a publication on X. In the text, the Lebanese army says that "several soldiers, including an officer, were killed in a savage and aggressive Israeli airstrike that targeted a military vehicle."

According to the NNA (Lebanon National News Agency), the dead officer was a brigadier general.
The region around Nabatiyeh has been the target of multiple Israeli attacks in recent days, despite the ceasefire brokered by the United States and agreed between governments on Wednesday (3).
At least 21 people died in Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon on Friday (5), according to a CNN count based on NNA data.
The Iranian-backed Hezbollah group, which has attacked Israeli troops inside Lebanon and communities in northern Israel, has rejected a ceasefire as long as Israeli military forces remain in Lebanon.
On Saturday, the Israeli armed forces issued yet another evacuation order for residents of several towns and cities in southern Lebanon, due to what they called a "violation of the ceasefire agreement by the terrorist party Hezbollah."
Remember how the war in Iran began
On February 28, United States President Donald Trump announced a "large-scale" attack on Iran, stating that the country's main objective was to "defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime."
These threats, he said, included Tehran's nuclear program - a recurring point of friction that has also hampered more recent negotiations to end the fighting.
The joint attacks by the US and Israel against Iran - which resulted in the death of the then supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei - caused thousands of deaths across the country and damage to dozens of museums, historic buildings and cultural sites, according to Iranian media outlets and authorities.
In response, Iran launched a series of retaliatory attacks across the Middle East and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which about 20% of the world's oil passes.
Weeks before the start of the war, the Trump administration carried out the largest military buildup in the Middle East since the 2003 invasion of Iraq, triggering warnings about escalating regional violence if a conflict erupted.
At the same time, US envoys held regular talks with Iran about a possible new nuclear deal. But those negotiations were unable to avert military action, with Trump accusing Iran at the time of rejecting "all opportunities to renounce its nuclear ambitions."
The outbreak of war in February also followed mass anti-regime protests in Iran the previous month, fueled by economic discontent amid skyrocketing costs.
The conflict also expanded to Lebanon. Hezbollah, an armed group supported by Iran, attacked Israeli territory in retaliation for the death of Ali Khamenei. As a result, Israel has carried out aerial offensives against what it says are Hezbollah targets in the neighboring country. More than 3,500 people have died in Lebanese territory since then, according to the country's Ministry of Health.
