IRPF 2026: Revenue records record with more than 44 million declarations

The Federal Revenue Service received more than 44 million 2026 Income Tax declarations within the deadline, which ended on Friday night (29). The number is in line with Revenue's expectations and means an increase of around 2.6% compared to the 2025 declarations, when 43.5 million were delivered.

The balance was anticipated by the Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, in a publication on social media this Saturday (30). According to him, the result demonstrates the engagement of taxpayers and the evolution of the Brazilian tax system.

"The Federal Revenue Service closed the 2026 Income Tax submission deadline with 44,498,717 declarations received. A result that reflects the commitment of Brazilian taxpayers and the maturity of the national tax system", he wrote.

Regarding the number of people who failed to submit the declaration within the deadline, the Federal Revenue reported that it is not possible to make a precise estimate. According to the agency, the projection of declarants for this year was fully achieved.

The Revenue added that the estimates are the result of investigations and data crossing carried out over the last five years, which makes it difficult to accurately identify taxpayers who may not have fulfilled their obligation.

For those who do not meet the regular Federal Revenue deadline, late delivery will be accompanied by a fine of at least R$165.74, up to 20% of the tax due. Payment deadline is up to 30 days.

In addition, the CPF (Individual Person Registry) may also remain pending, making it difficult to issue documents, such as certificates and passports.

After submitting the reports, those who are entitled to a refund of unduly charged tax in 2025 will receive payment. The first batch was paid on Friday (29).

The refund will be paid in four batches, the first being at the end of May. See the schedule:

- First batch: May 29, 2026;
- Second batch: June 30, 2026;
- Third batch: July 31, 2026; e
- Fourth batch: August 28, 2026.
