Iranian media deny that opening of Hormuz is part of agreement with US
The Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iranian administration, according to the latest text exchanged between Iran and the US, the semi-official Iranian news agency Fars reported on Saturday (23).
The agency rejected US President Donald Trump's announcement about the reopening of the strait as part of a "broadly negotiated" agreement, calling it "incomplete and inconsistent with reality."
Just minutes before the agency's statement, Trump said a peace deal with Iran had been "largely negotiated" and final details were expected to be announced "soon."
In a post on the social network Truth Social, the American president stated that he spoke with Gulf leaders, together with Pakistan, mediator of the negotiations, about the war against Iran and a "Memorandum of Understanding on Peace".
According to Trump, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz was among the elements of the agreement.
Why is the Strait of Hormuz so important to the world economy?
