Iran says US violated deal by reimposing oil sanctions

Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned the US Treasury's decision to revoke the temporary suspension of sanctions on Iranian oil sales, saying the decision violates the Islamabad memorandum to end the war and holding Washington responsible for the consequences.

The ministry stated that Iran would take all measures it deems necessary to protect its interests and national security.

The United States has revoked a general license that authorized the sale of Iranian oil, an American official said on Tuesday (7), warning that Iran's actions in the Strait of Hormuz were "totally unacceptable" and would have consequences, following attacks on oil tankers in the shipping lane.

Oil prices rose more than 3% after the announcement.

The American representative stated that negotiators continue to work to reach a final agreement with Iran, despite the recent escalation of tensions.

In June of this year, the American government reportedly signed an agreement with the Islamic Republic to suspend sanctions imposed on the country's oil sales.

The measure, which had been imposed on June 21, allowed Iran to sell and deliver oil, without suffering sanctions, to almost all countries in the world, including the United States, until August 21.

The revocation carried out by the US was taken after three oil tankers reported being hit by unknown projectiles in and around the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, the UKMTO (United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations) agency, linked to the British Navy, said in a report. There was no immediate comment from Tehran, nor any claim of responsibility.
