Iran says US strikes halted reopening of Strait of Hormuz

US and Iran exchange attacks for the second night in a row
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy said on Thursday (9) that US bombings of the country interrupted the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The US and Iran exchanged attacks for the second day in a row overnight last night and early this Thursday (9).
The Revolutionary Guard also added that transit capacity under Iran's supervision had recovered to around 50% of pre-war levels in the last two weeks and that it was being expanded, but only for vessels authorized by Iranian authorities.
The Marina also warned that any new US action would provoke an "overwhelming response".

The Strait of Hormuz is a maritime corridor about 50 kilometers wide that connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean. Before the war, around 20% of all oil and gas traded in the world passed through the area.
170 targets hit in two days
United States Central Command (Centcom) forces carried out a new round of attacks against Iran on Wednesday night (8), with the aim of reducing the country's ability to attack commercial ships and civilian sailors in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the statement issued by American forces, the military action reached around 90 strategic targets along the Iranian coast.
This Wednesday's offensive continues a wave of attacks carried out the previous night. As of Tuesday (7), Centcom forces had already bombed approximately 80 military targets in Iran, including more than 60 small vessels of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Among the structures destroyed or damaged are air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities and military logistics infrastructure.

According to Iranian state media, eight soldiers belonging to the Air Force and Navy died during these bombings on Tuesday in the cities of Bandar Abbas and Bushehr.
According to the American government, the initial retaliation was a direct response to Iran's violation of a ceasefire agreement, after the country attacked three commercial vessels sailing through Hormuz.
Also on Wednesday, Iran's Revolutionary Guard threatened to attack other American military bases in the region after having undertaken attacks in Bahrain and Kuwait.

Trump decrees end of agreement and promises new ones attacks
The military escalation gained a new chapter this Wednesday (8) with statements by the President of the United States, Donald Trump. During a press conference in Ankara, Turkey, alongside NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, ahead of an alliance summit, Trump said the peace deal with Tehran is "over." dealing with them. Trump says ceasefire with Iran is over

Iran threatens to close the Strait of Hormuz
In direct response to the threats, Iran will close the Strait of Hormuz if there are new attacks against the country this Wednesday, according to Iranian broadcaster Press TV. The information came from a security source who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The source also stated that Tehran will attack "enemy" targets in a ratio of at least two to one if Trump's NATO promises come to fruition. The sea route had been reopened precisely with last month's agreement.
Still on Wednesday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard released a statement in which it assumed attacks on United States military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. The country's armed forces also threatened to expand attacks to other American bases in the region if the US attacks again.
The note detailed that the retaliatory attack specifically targeted installations in Arifjan and Ali al-Salem, in Kuwait, and Jufayr and Sheikh Isa, in Bahrain. On Tuesday, Iranian state media had recognized explosions in the regions of Bandar Abbas, Qeshm and Sirik.
During the night, sirens and air defense systems were activated in the American partner countries.
